Davra has won a contract from The European Space Agency (ESA) to develop an integrated satellite and distributed ground sensor system to monitor mine tailings storage facilities in remote locations. The systems will improve many types of satellites that could effectively monitor remote locations, alongside cutting-edge sensors that will be located on the ground. Using the system, specialists can evaluate detailed information from innumerable sensors, enhancing efficiency, reducing long-term costs, and lessening the duration of each project.

Established in 1975, the European Space Agency is a multinational organization that manages a wide variety of projects. The European Space Agency researches technology that can enhance space exploration, such as satellites, telecommunications, unique spacecraft and advanced robots. Throughout the last 15 years, the organization has developed satellites that could improve meteorological forecasts, navigational equipment and detailed maps. They currently have a satellite that is orbiting Mars examining geographic information, atmospheric data and factors that could affect gravitational force.

Davra is an IoT company founded in 2012 in Dublin, Ireland by a team of Big Data and Data Analytics veterans. Davra is a pioneering Industrial Internet of Things company that helped coin the term Application Enablement Platform or AEP. Davra provides a complete IoT platform that allows System Integrators, OEMs, and our end customers to define, build and rapidly bring to market industrial grade IoT applications on a single reliable, secure and scalable IoT platform.

Alongside Davra two other Irish companies were awarded funding from the European Space Agency. Dublin company Skytek is a software company that specializes in the creation of innovative solutions for a range of complex and demanding industries. Skytek received funding support under ESA’s InCubed Programme to develop an advanced application to allow insurers to assess the real time scale of cargo in ports once offloaded from a ship and hence, their potential liability in the case of accident. Experts at Skytek will create applications that will examine types of cargo to help manage busy ports, control incoming ships, organize sizable containers and develop effective guidelines. The ESA also awarded funding to Galway based mBryonics to develop a software defined optical transport network to deliver very high throughput Earth Observation data downloads from the space segment to a distributed ground segment

John Halligan T.D., Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development visited the ESA Centre for Earth Observation to make the announcement of the funding for the three Irish companies. “I am delighted to be announcing more contracts between Irish companies and the European Space Agency. I am particularly pleased that these contracts will support our companies to strengthen their capabilities in the field of earth observation, enabling us to achieve the goals of Ireland’s National Space Strategy for Enterprise.” “[This is] in addition to supporting the aims of Future Jobs Ireland, which places a focus on embracing innovation and technological change, transitioning to a low carbon economy, and developing talent and enhancing skills in areas including big data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.”

Paul Glynn, Davra CEO, expressed his excitement about the contract, sharing that it is “one of our most exciting IoT projects to date.”

Brian McGlynn, Davra, COO

Davra
